Gaples Institute Helps At-Risk Youth Discover Superpowers of Healthy Food

The Gaples Institute’s new award-winning nutrition course for teens and young adults is delivering the superpowers of healthy food to Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch, a treatment and education center for students with psychiatric, behavioral, and trauma-related challenges.

Health and Phys Ed teacher Lucas Michaelson recently used the Food As a Superpower course as a capstone for the nutrition unit he teaches. He found the graphic-novel themed course to be a great fit for his classroom.

“My students range from 12 to 18, and many of them struggle with the pressures of rigid tests and fact memorization,” Mr. Michaelson explained. “This resource was a fun, interactive experience for all of them.”

So one of my greatest ambitions is to open my students’ eyes to how healthy eating is a key to a better and longer life, and to practice what I preach.”

We’re proud to be helping Mr. Michaelson and the students of Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch activate their inner superheroes through healthy food! If you know an educator who would like to help their students learn to use food as a superpower, we invite you to share this flyer with them or send them to FoodSuperpower.org.
