WGN-TV in Chicago aired a special segment on how to make informed choices when buying packaged foods. The station invited Dr. Stephen Devries, Executive Director of the Gaples Institute, as the featured speaker.
In his appearance, he showed examples of many common and deceptive food-marketing techniques that often result in consumers unknowingly making unhealthy purchases.
He also helped viewers understand the real meaning behind common advertising phrases that don’t always imply the product is a healthy choice, such as “multi-grain,” “cholesterol-free,” and “made with whole grains.”
