The pairing of “fast” and “food” usually means trouble. But not this time.
Instead, I would like to share with you how quickly dietary changes act to improve your health.
Many people believe that nutritional changes take a long time to reap benefits… years, or even decades of dietary changes to make any impact. And after all that time, the benefits, some believe, are minimal.
The good news is that nothing could be further from the truth!
Dietary changes work very quickly—and here are some examples:
The DASH Diet showed a dramatic drop in blood pressure after only 2 weeks! An 11-point for the top (systolic) number and a 6-point drop for the bottom (diastolic) number. DASH diet includes 8 to 10 servings of combined vegetables and fruit per day and 2 to 3 servings of low-fat or non-fat dairy per day.
The Lyon Mediterranean Diet Study (similar to DASH diet but including olive oil) showed fewer heart attacks compared to a control group within the first year of a 5-year study.
Bottom line: Dietary changes are fast and powerful.
The key ingredients are generous portions of vegetables and fruit.
The Gaples Institute was featured in a discussion of the rapid benefits of diet in a nationally aired television program, “The DASH Diet with Marla Heller MS, RD”:
